He had done so to a great number of his slaves. Bought them. Freed them. Requested to do nothing in return.

He sacrificed everything to Islam.

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه one day donated all his money — 40,000 dirhams — to Islam. Everything he had.

The Prophet ﷺ asked him: “What have you left for your family?”

Death and Legacy

Buried Next to His Best Friend ﷺ

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه passed away around 634 CE. He was approximately 60 years old.

He had one request before he died — to be buried next to the Prophet ﷺ.

They did. His grave is now next to that of Muhammad ﷺ in Medina. Even in death, he wanted to be near his friend.

The Prophet ﷺ once said: “If I were to take a close friend other than my Lord, I would have taken Abu Bakr.”
